About Richard

I have been a performing musician and composer for over 20 years and have been refining my teaching practice for the past 10 years. I have a passion for music education and helping students succeed in their musical aspirations.

As a teacher, I specialise in classical piano and guitar, but I am also an experienced player in a range of musical styles, from Latin to Rock and Pop.

As a musician, I am the creative director and lead guitarist of Brazilian outfit, Tempo Feliz, and I've been fortunate to have my compositions played on BBC and international radio.
An experienced live performer, with highlights including sharing the stage with Brazilian icon, Marcos Valle, I've performed headline slots at some of the leading music venues and festivals in the UK and abroad.
My teaching philosophy has been developed through first-hand teaching experience, but also in my professional work as a learning designer at the University of Leeds, where I have applied my knowledge of learning theory to design and develop world-leading MSc programmes.
My lessons build on a foundation of creating a pupil-centred, supportive and engaging learning environment that nurtures creativity, growth and enjoyment.
